Lab Video Directions and Sample

Hi Students,

In this assignment you have the opportunity to think creatively to teach your classmates about successful lab practices. Create a video in which you discuss and demonstrate "How to write a lab report" or "How to stay safe in the lab."

Below is an exceptional student-made rap on lab safety.

Refer to these resources as well as explore online tools for content to include in the video:

-Lab Safety Rules and Contract

-Howto Write a Lab Report

When posting your video to the blog be sure to include the names of the group members to receive credit.

Also, each student will comment on a different team's video which covered the other lab subject matter. For full points, your comment should include:

-1 thing you learned from the video that you didn’t previously know

-If you feel the video helped prepare for success succeed in labs and why

-If the presentation of the video complimented or took away from the content

Transverse Waves Video

Please watch this video to introduce the parts and properties of transverse waves. An important example of a transverse wave is a wave moving through a rope. Please watch closely, take notes and post questions to the comments section below or bring them to class. https://www.educreations.com/lesson/view/transverse-waves/31430551/?ref=link&s=HWjPrm

Projectile Motion Simulation Tutorial - Podcast

Embedded is a tutorial podcast created by yours truly. In preparation for tomorrow's computer simulation lab, experimenting with launching various projectiles (including a piano!!), please view this tutorial to help familiarize yourself with this new online tool. Open a new browser tab, and then listen to the podcast which will guide you through the PhET simulation site. You can also access the simulation be clicking here. Play around with the application, and tomorrow we will work in lab groups to calculate projectile motion, gearing us up for a hands-on catapult building project.

Organ Systems Flashcards

Good afternoon, students!

Please take a look at the vocabulary flashcards that I have prepared in order to review for your upcoming Chapter 13 quiz. These terms directly correlate to your Pearson California Life Science textbook curriculum. Please review all of the slides and make note of the terms for which you need extra review. Please comment below or email me if you have questions or need further explanations.

Educational Videos

The following two videos can be used for a life science unit in which biological classification is introduced or reviewed and the human organ systems are discussed.

This video covers the levels of the biological pyramid from the cell to the biosphere/Earth. The video is animated and gives a few examples of each level for the students to put these aspects into perspective.

Organ System is one level of the pyramid and can be expanded on with the following video. The Amoeba Sisters have created a long line of animated YouTube videos that pertain to biology. I find the videos to be very age and curriculum appropriate for middle school life science.

PowerPoint Video Conversion

I was successfully able to download the YouTube video in mp4 format, convert the file to avi and wmv and insert them into a PowerPoint presentation. This is very useful knowledge as I have had to save a YouTube video to my desktop and switch between my PowerPoint presentation and the desktop files during a teaching experience before. This task can easily lose the attention of the students if technical difficulties ensue, so I will be sure to insert videos to the presentation from here on out!
